Turiya Magadlela (b. 1978, South Africa) is a contemporary artist known for her use of everyday materials, particularly textiles such as nylon stockings, to create abstract works. Her art explores themes related to identity, race, and gender, often reflecting on her experiences as a Black woman in post-apartheid South Africa. Magadlela’s compositions are formed by stretching and layering fabric, resulting in textured surfaces that evoke a range of cultural and social issues.
